I Apologise To Indian Army: Woman In Viral ‘We Are Gen Z’ Ladakh Video Breaks Silence

A video showing a woman clashing with security personnel during a road closure in Ladakh has dominated social media for days. Now, the 25-year-old woman at the centre of the controversy has spoken out for the first time, apologising to the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and Ladakh Police. Jantantra TV continues to track this developing story in its Trending section.

Where Did the Confrontation Take Place?

The incident occurred around July 25–26 near the Minimarg check post in Ladakh’s Drass area. The Minimarg–Zoji La–Sonamarg road had been temporarily closed as part of security protocols linked to Kargil Vijay Diwas. As a result, hundreds of travellers — including the woman, who was travelling from Ladakh to Delhi — were left stranded for hours.

In the viral clip, the woman is seen confronting security personnel and questioning why a minister’s convoy was allowed to pass while ordinary travellers remained stuck. Visibly angry, she says, “We will not move. No one will move from here. Understand whatever you want to understand. I am Gen Z… We will not tolerate this nonsense!” She then urges other stranded travellers around her to join a sit-in protest.

Army Veterans Slam Her Remarks

As the video spread, several retired military officers, including former Army Chief General V.K. Singh, strongly criticised the woman’s conduct. Retired Lieutenant General K.J.S. Dhillon wrote that her language reflected poorly on her “parenting and schooling” and urged her to always be respectful. Former Chinar Corps Commander Lieutenant General Satish Dua objected to her remark that army salaries come from taxpayers’ money, calling it a “degradation” of soldiers’ sacrifices.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also weighed in, remarking that “We are Gen Z” was fast becoming the new version of “Do you know who my father is.”

Her Side: “I Went Into Depression”

Speaking to NDTV for the first time, the woman explained that she and her family had been travelling from Ladakh to Delhi and had not been informed in advance about the VIP movement. “We were told in the morning that it would only take an hour, but we waited for three to four hours. When we asked a soldier, he said another hour. In the end, we were stuck for six hours,” she said.

She admitted that what she said in anger was entirely wrong. “Whatever I said in frustration was not right at all. I respect the Indian Army so much. I could never dream that they would feel bad because of something I said,” she told NDTV. She clarified that the phrase “We are Gen Z” had come out spontaneously, provoked by comments from onlookers around her, and was not meant as any political or generational statement.

The intense backlash following the video’s viral spread took a toll on her mental health. “That thing was shown in such a negative way that I went into depression. I am a normal girl. I am a 25-year-old girl. I had no idea that this thing would increase so much,” she said.

A Public Apology

Concluding the interview, she issued a public apology: “Now, through you, I am again apologising to all the people of the country, to the Indian Army, to the J&K Police, to the Ladakh Police, and especially to Omar Abdullah. I am very ashamed that so many people were hurt because of me.”

Note

This report is based on the widely circulated video, eyewitness accounts, and the woman’s own interview. Opinion on the incident remains sharply divided — some argue that frustration after a six-hour delay was understandable, while others maintain that such conduct towards security personnel in a sensitive border region was inappropriate. Jantantra TV will continue to update this story as it develops.
